vPlanner Overview Webinars

Overview of vPlanner V5
vPlanner V5 features a newly designed user interface that is organized into various working views each with its own set of tools in ribbons.  Common themes across the various ribbon tools will make it easer to find the relevant tools and apply them during workflows.  All the tools will be visible on the interface, however depending on context and user permissions only the tools that are applicable to a selection and user permissions will be enabled for the user.  The idea is that the interface will remain consistent as the same user may have different permissions depending on the project they are part of.  The recordings for all the webinars are available on the vPlanner Vimeo channel from the following link:  (Webinar Recordings)

Organization of the User Interface
Upon successful login, you will be presented with the vPlanner Menu.  Here you can select the project you wish to work on and then click the Folder in the project tile to open the project.  Once a project is opened, V5 will automatically switch to the Manage view.  You will see the task filter so you can select what you want to view if the project has tasks or nothing of this is a new project.

The User Interface (UI) is organized into Working Views.  Each working view has an associated context menu.  You can switch between working views by selecting the view title from the tab menu.  When a view is active, its context menu will become visible.  The view's context menu includes all the tools that can be applied to that view.  To switch back to the vPlanner menu (say to open a different project), click on the vPlanner logo in the top menu.    Note that in V5, vPlanner.Manage (simply called Manage) and vPlanner.Pull (simply called Pull), are now views rather than separate applications.  You can switch between them using the tabs.  When you first open a project the Pull tab will be grayed out because there is no active pull plan.  The List working view is currently not available.

The Manage View
The manage view is where you will do most of the work in vPlanner.  It has all the features of V4 plus many more new features added in V5.  Most of the ribbon buttons include tooltips to explain what they do.  Feel free to explore them. Future webinars will describe them in detail.
The Kanban View
The Kanban view is new in V5.  When enabled, it will show all the released tasks in the plan (unconstrainted tasks) and will display them in the Available Work column.  Pending Commitments will show up in the ToDO column.  Workplan tasks in the rest of the columns.  If you have status-rights to a task you can drag it between the columns to change its status.  A stop-sign icon will indicate that the target status is not compatible with the task being dragged.

The Gantt View
The Gantt View by default will show all the tasks in the project.  You can filter to a specific team or company or to your own tasks.  You may also apply filters and group the tasks (using the Nesting tool).

Special Working Views
At the end of the ribbon for each working view, you will find the Window section (see in red below).  You can use the buttons in the Window section to open the multi-task editor panel and the Focused View.   Clicking the same buttons again will hide those items.

Special Workflow Menus
The ribbon includes three special menus for management of the short term plans.  The tools in those ribbons only apply to the Manage view and the Gantt view.  You will see an alert show up if you try to use them on the other working views as they are not applicable.
The Lookahead RibbonThe lookahead ribbon is used to identify tasks on the lookahead.
The Commit Ribbon: is used to identify available work to place it on the workplan.
The Status Ribbon: is used to identify work that is currently on a workplan so that you can status it.

Reports
The reports menu will open the available metrics.  You must create and status at least one workplan in order to see data in this view.

Docking Support
You are not limited to working in one view at a time.  Any of the Working Views can be dragged and placed in a new window or docked next to another view.  Simply click on the title of the view tab, hold the mouse button, and drag to peel the view.  Drop the view on the blue icons to dock it.  Drag the view and drop it on the center blue icon to fold it back into its original location.

The Daily Planning Board
You can open the Daily Planning Board from the special icon in the Ribbon for the Manage view.  Any visible tasks in the Manage view, will be split into single day tasks and included in the view.  You can create multiple daily planning view from different view in the Manage view.  Once you are done with a view, comply close its window.  The Daily Planning Board is currently read-only but you will be able to change its visible range and its swimlanes composition.
